Private lessons

Coral offers private lessons in fiddle (violin), oboe and music theory from her home in Fairfield, Melbourne.

Coral uses both the traditional method of teaching by ear and sheet music. Neither skill is prerequisite and you can learn how to combine the methods as you build your repertoire.

Repertoire can include traditional/folk music from England, Ireland, Scotland, America and Europe, along with basic classical repertoire and anything else you are interested in looking at.

Ad-hoc lessons and short-term courses can be arranged, as well as regular lessons. Day time or evening lessons are available, for any age.

Lessons are individually tailored to the learner, the main aim is to make the process of learning music fun, and develop the skills you want to learn. Any skill level can be catered for, including additional educational needs, of which Coral has extensive experience.

Workshops

Coral runs workshops in English tunes (suitable for all melody instruments), step clog dance, and traditional rapper sword dancing. Workshops can be provided for festivals and events, for private groups, and Coral regularly organises events open to the public. Online workshops can be provided in English tunes and step clog dance, see English Traditions for ongoing monthly online sessions.

Step Clog Dance

Step clog dance is the precursor to modern tap dance, performed in wooden soled shoes. Originating from the industrial North of England, workers would tap along to rhythms they heard in the mills during the day, and compete with their best steps in the pub at night!

Rapper Sword Dance

The rapper sword dance is a traditional dance form originating with the miners of North-East England. It is fast-paced, rhythmical and precise; dancers weave in and out to create intricate displays with the flexible steel swords.
